Trabzon

Bustling Trabzon is a large harbor city enclosed by the soaring peaks of the Eastern Pontic Mountains, which run along the coast. It was founded perhaps as early as the 8th century BC by Greek settlers and soon flourished as part of the caravan trade route between Persia and the Mediterranean.

One of the Black Sea Coast's most famous attractions is Sumela Monastery, which seems to sprout out of the sheer cliff face enclosing it.

Sinop

Charming and cosmopolitan Sinop is both the most northerly point on the Turkish Black Sea Coast and also the best protected harbor. It is now a place of little consequence compared with its importance in antiquity, when it was a busy commercial city at the northern end of principal caravan routes from Cappadocia and the lands of the Euphrates.According to legend, Sinope was founded by the Amazons, who named it for their queen, Sinova. The city’s ancient inhabitants ascribed its foundation to Autolycus, a companion of Hercules. Destroyed by the wandering Cimmerians, it was refounded toward the end of the 7th century BCE by a colony of Milesians. It ultimately became the most flourishing Greek settlement on the Euxine Sea.

Rize

The town itself is a thoroughly modern affair, surrounded by lush green tea plantations. Take a trip to the Tea Garden above town, where you can sip your tea while admiring great views across the rolling hills.

Explore Romania

When people think of Romania, they tend only think of gypsies and Dracula, but there is much more the country than that. I had no idea what to expect when I visited (hopefully a lot of vampire stuff) and found Romania to be far more wonderful than I ever imagined.

Sea side

Warm climate, miles of sand beaches, ancient monuments, vineyards and modern resorts invite travelers to seriously consider Romania's Black Sea Coast as their summer vacation destination. Romania's main sea resorts are centred on 45 miles of fine sand beaches and include Mamaia, Eforie, Neptun, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Mangalia. If you are here in winter time, you can enjoy yhe frozen sea of Romania.

Transylvania

I hopped through Transylvania in search of Dracula. Sadly, there wasn’t much about him to be found. You’d think the Romanians would capitalize on the whole Dracula thing, but there’s hardly any vampire kitsch around.
The main center of tourism in Transylvania was the city of Brasov. It was there that there were the most people, sites, day trips, and tours. Brasov is an ancient city that used to be on an important trading route between the East and the West.

Bucharest

I found a city flush with energy, cafés, nice cars, beautiful parks, delicious international food, and lively nightlife. I also enjoyed a wide range of architecture, from art deco to late 19th century Paris to, yes, those big, dull, grey communist buildings. The historic center had tons of great restaurants and cafés. This place used to be called the Paris of the East, and it’s easy to see why.
